The Way of the Turtle - The Slow and Steady Path to Better
Health
Why
Do We Yo-Yo?
The
Need for Support
It stands to reason
that if we are to make permanent changes in our lives, it's difficult
to do it alone. Even the most independent of us needs support and
encouragement at times. Many studies have shown that dietary changes
are very difficult to maintain without the support of those around
us, and that talking to people who are attempting similar changes
can be enormously helpful.
I have found over
the past 2 years that I needed to turn to a variety of places to
get support. Certainly my family has been great about my changed
ways of eating, but I needed to educate them about what I was doing
and how it was affecting me. As I figured out what way of eating
was working out best, I turned to the Internet to find people who
were doing close to the same thing I was. This was very helpful,
and there are some great sites I can recommend. However, I also
encountered people doing pretty much what you would expect human
beings to do - emphasizing information that supports their chosen
way, and ignoring the more inconvenient information that they don't
really want to hear about because it doesn't fit their plans. So
on some issues, I found myself biting my tonge, or the online equivalent,
"sitting on my hands".
This is one of
the main reasons I wanted to create this site. I want to support
people in finding what works for them, and also supply information
about the latest research in health and nutrition, so that people
can make the best food choices within that way of eating that works
best for them, be it low carb, high carb, or something in between.
