Exercise that Works

How many times have you started on an exercise plan, only to abandon it days, weeks, or occasionally months later? Most of us have had this experience multiple times.

Exercise has so many health benefits, it's hard to list them all. It's good for almost everything from your heart to your emotions (see our exercise section for a long list). For long term weight loss, it is absolutely essential (you can lose weight without exercise, but you won't keep it off).

The trouble is, we tend to go about it the wrong way. A new exercise gym opens, and we enthusiastically join up, do too much too fast, get sore, and 6 months later we have nothing to show for the money we spent. Or we just set goals that are too high, and don't adequately integrate them into our schedules. Or we are doing well for awhile, and then and illness or change of schedule derails us.

Just as with eating changes, we must find ways to work exercise into our lives in ways that will be permanent. One of the goals of this site is to support people in making these long-term changes, to help us all become more active. We will choose exercise that is enjoyable and appropriate for each of our bodies, and we will make small changes, incorporating them fully into our lives before moving on. When life brings us disruptions and shifts, we will support each other to find ways to maintain our routines or find new ones. We will share with each other the joys of being active, encouraging and motivating one another.
